What is Easter?

Easter is a church holiday celebrated in the springtime around the world to commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the son of God. As Christians, we believe that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the grave to defeat sin, death, and darkness, and to offer any who come to him hope, belonging, and eternal life.

You might be familiar with traditions surrounding Easter such as Easter eggs and baskets, bunnies, and lots of candies. We believe Easter Sunday is about so much more than that. It is about the good news that Jesus brought to Earth through his life, death, and resurrection.

Easter at Parkview Central Campus

We're worshipping on Easter Sunday, April 20, at 8 & 9:45 AM. Read on to plan ahead for a great Easter experience. We can't wait to meet you!

How to Get Here

15 Foster Road, Iowa City, IA 52245

Our Central Campus is located on the corner of Dubuque St and Foster Road in Iowa City, IA. This location is easily accessible from I-80 as well as downtown Iowa City. If you're a student and looking for a ride from campus, let us know you're coming!

Where to Park

We have a large, free parking lot right on site! You can enter our parking lot from Foster Road to the north of our building or Taft Speedway to the south of our building.

We have a few parking options for specific needs, such as our drop-off zone right near the front door, wheelchair-accessible parking spaces in the center loop, and new and expecting parent parking spaces in the northeast corner of the lot.

Your First 10 Minutes

There's a lot to figure out in those first 5-10 minutes once you've parked the car. Here's what most of our attenders do so you can get an idea of what you might want to do:

Enter through the front doors. Our Hospitality team is ready to greet you with a friendly smile and a wave or handshake! They'll open the door for you, and can answer questions you may have.

Orient yourself in the Lobby. Our building has a funky layout, and we know this can be overwhelming and confusing when it's your first time. As you enter, take a few moments to look to your left (the Kids Wing), your right (the Worship Center), and straight ahead (the Atrium). Now you can confidently make your next move: turn left to the family visitor check-in to get your kids signed up for Children's Ministry, head straight to get a family picture in the Atrium and grab a donut and coffee, or turn right to go find your seats in the Worship Center.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Right in the center of the Lobby, as soon as you enter, you'll see our Connect Center: a bar-height table and a TV. 2 or 3 Hospitality volunteers will be stationed here, ready to answer any questions you may have. They even have a special gift for you just for joining us this morning!

What about my kids?

Registering Your Kids
In the Lobby, you will find check-in kiosks, two self-serve and one with a Check-in Volunteer. As a new family, we ask that you visit the Check-in Volunteer to ensure a smooth check-in process. They can also answer any questions you may have.

We strive to provide a safe learning environment to give peace of mind to parents and an enjoyable experience for kids. During the service, access to the Kids Wing is limited to parents, kids, and volunteers with security tags until 15 minutes after each service.

If you're attending the 8 AM service:
Note that only nursery care for toddlers and infants under 3 years old will be offered during the 8 AM service. Older children are welcome to join their parents in the service and we often provide activity bags to keep them busy and help them engage with the sermon.

If you're attending the 9:45 AM service:
This service will offer full children's programming for ages 0 through 5th grade. Classrooms are divided by age and kids will learn a Bible lesson from classroom volunteers at developmentally appropriate levels.

Do you need a quiet place to feed or settle a child? Visit our mothers room, located in the nursery in the north wing of the building. There are rocking chairs, a changing table, water, and low lighting to provide the comfort and quiet you may need. If you need help locating it, ask one of our security team volunteers at the doors to the north wing.

What is your Easter service like?

Our Easter services will be held in the Worship Center, located at the south end of the building. If you would like, we will have a few rows of seats roped off toward the back of the Worship Center; however, you are more than welcome to sit wherever you are most comfortable!

An Easter service at Parkview looks much like every Sunday at Parkview: we'll sing songs together, pray together, and hear a message from the Bible. However, there are some special elements to remind us of the meaning of Easter: we will celebrate baptisms, a symbolic celebration of new life in Christ, and we will have a choir on stage with our band!

What do I do once the service ends?

Whew! You made it through the hard parts. Once the service ends, you have a couple of options: you can pray with a leader near the front of the stage, head out into the Lobby to mingle and enjoy Easter treats and activities, or you can move onto your family's Easter festivities.

Pray with a leader
Sometimes, things come up in your week or even in the service that you might want prayer for. We always have 3 or 4 leaders, both male and female, ready to pray with you if needed.

Easter Activities
Following each service, you're welcome to check out the Atrium which will be loaded with Easter treats and activities! Grab a donut from the donut wall, and make sure everybody's hair looks good–it's time for a family photo! We'll have several photo opportunities because we know it's hard work to get everyone looking this nice at the same time. Our main photo display will feature a professional photographer, and the photos will be available following the event.

Come back next week!
We gather every Sunday at 9:45 AM to worship and enjoy time together. We hope you come back to join us again soon!

The hope of Resurrection Sunday can't happen without the tragedy of Good Friday.

At Parkview, we prioritize telling the whole story as Scripture tells it, which means we can't celebrate the resurrection of Jesus without first honoring the sacrifice of Jesus. If you would like, we'd love to have you join us on Good Friday, 4/18, at 6 PM to remember the cross.
