"What Is 24:7 All About?"

Nate Hobert

10 years ago, I joined a group at college similar to 24:7 who were simply asking the question "What is worth my life?"

This particular group was considering the claims of a historical figure named Jesus and the ancient Christian faith. Some of us were curious about Jesus and others were already committed to him. The following are just a few of my thoughts on how this intersects with your life, no matter how religious or non-religious you might be. In an eyewitness account from the Gospel of Mark, Jesus says: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it." (Mark 8:34-35) Let me suggest that Jesus is either the most arrogant man that has ever lived, or he is the one that is actually worth your life. Arrogance is when you say something that you can't back up. Jesus is saying in affect, serve me and it will be worth your life. Somewhere in the midst of this community like 24:7, I decided that Jesus was worth my life. However, this entry was completely different than what you might think. It came about by realizing that my entry into a relationship with Him was by first acknowledging I came with nothing. It came by realizing that the one who had told me that to follow him had already lost his life for me and then somehow came back to life and that this actually happened in history. In a nutshell, my relationship with God was not based on what I did, but based altogether on what Jesus had done. No matter where you are on the continuum of faith, 24:7 is a community for students to both consider and grow in what it means to know this historical figure Jesus and the ancient Christian faith.
